RE: South East Florida

Check CB Smith Park in Pembroke Pines, FL.
This is a county park, and I think it is about $25 a night,
full hook ups.
I see large motor homes there all the time with toads too!

RE: Diesel less $$$ than gas?

I saw one station here for $2.99 if you paid CASH though.
Diesel runs about $3.98 - $4.21 a gallon........
Most gas stations are still charging about $3.50 a gallon
though for gas.....

RE: Towing with 2008 Ford F250 Super Duty diesel

Doesn't a 4x2 weight less than a 4x4. ?
We have a 4x4 and it weighs in at 8,800 lbs too!

RE: Breakdown

I don't know what other experiences are with Good Sam ERS But we broke down on a Friday going up a mountain in No. Georgia. Transmission blew. They sent 2 trucks
within one hour. One towed the fifth wheel to the state park. The other towed us to the transmission repair shop of our choice. The transmission place (Arne's in Blairsville, GA) examined the 'mess' and ordered us a Jasper tranny, installed it about noon on Monday and we were on our way.
KUDOS to Good Sam ERS and Arne's !

RE: How many of us are waiting for the SOLD sign?

We plan on listing our house in January 09'. Doing the clean out the closets, yard sales and donations now. Still got a little sprucing up of the place then it's ready to list.
Our area (South Florida) has a tremendous amount of foreclosures and short sales. They will probably go first - but NOTHING is going until money is freed up so the people can get a mortgage.
The banks are having a hard time getting money, and now they are talking 20% down.
If a house sells for $300,000 that is $60,000 down! Looks like NO one will ever sell a house again if that is the game the are gonna play.
Give it three months - maybe by then things will start to fall into place.
I can only hope.

RE: Kissimmee Prairie Preserve, Fl.

At night it is SO dark it looks like you are in a cave -- the stars are stupendous!
We can't wait to go back. Usually in the late fall or early winter so it
is cooler.
The roads are a packed gravel - but I doubt they will let you ride anything
but a bicycle on them. No hiking trails that I can remember.
Take ALL your food/drinks - store is 25 miles away!

RE: Myakka River St.Pk, Florida ??

We just usually camp closest to the area where you launch your canoes/kayaks
as it is a shorter drive.
There is a little store there and if you don't have your own canoe, you can rent on there.
Also there are boat rides on the lake.
The alligators are awesome and HUGE!

I had Progressive previously for my fiver but changed to RV Explorer in California after the Progressive rates jumped. It went down about 15% for us.

RE: Virginia "Personal Property Tax"

So I am moving from South Florida to Georgia, so should I just bend over now?
I have a car, a truck and a fifth wheel!
Guess in lieu of a mortgage payment I gotta get a personal property tax loan!
Ah dang, just when I thought I was retiring!

RE: "In The News"

I guess people who RV get drunk like the regular folks.........
No common sense urinating in public - idiots !
But to throw out the baby with the bathwater makes no sense to me.
Guess it will depend on HOW much the casinos want the business of
the RV'ers to see if they chime in on this situation.

RE: Alaska bound

It has been about eight years since we took a Princess cruise from Vancouver to Seward. Did the usual stops along the way. In Seward we rented a van and headed
north to Anchorage, then on to Talkeetna and took a small plane and landed on a gladier for a hike. In Anchorage there is lots to do also.
Wish we had more time there, but had to head back south and home out of Anchorage airport.
We plan to take the RV to Alaska and hopefully once we get there we can stay about a month.
I'll be over at the Alaska forum soon getting info as to routes, places to camp and also WHEN is the best time to go. Guess that would be during June or July when it is warmest there - but I am sure others will chime in help us out!

RE: Florida's Nature Coast - Chasshowitska

Any site recommendation - I'm ready!
We have a 32 ft fifth wheel.......
no problems getting in?
If they have a large enough space - we're taking
the canoe and I'll make reservations for next year!
Thanks, JO

RE: new beginners

probably depends on the size of the fiver and the boat.
We pull a 31 ft fiver and load it with only the essentials.
We aren't over our towing capacity for the truck, but probably
over the weight we should be putting on our axles - but not by much!

RE: Sad Day...

I am sorry to say that this will NOT make you feel better
BUT,
I camp ALL year as I live in South Florida!
We hope to move to middle Georgia soon where we have some
property, but I still think we'll be able to camp year round;
we'll just have to go south........
Sorry......
